We're in Austin
After 13 hours of driving, we made it to Austin. Our destination had been Dallas, but on the road after hearing news reports and talking to State Troopers, we changed our minds and headed to Austin.
The roads were horrendous. We went 100 miles in five hours. The kids and the three cats were with me while my husband and my step daughter were in her car. Since we have three cats and only two carriers, I left my oldest cat out, thinking she'd be better that way. I should have known better. She vomited three times. So, while dealing with the traffic, heated tempers, I also had to clean up that.
I'm not sure I'll get to go home to much. The hurricane is headed directly toward my house. We didn't board up anything since we thought we weren't going to get very much weather, but then the hurricane changed directions and decided to hit the Texas/Louisiana border.
I nearly lost it last night when my daughter started telling my brother on the phone that she was upset since she didn't think she would have a room left when we got back. She kept saying there was so much in her room that she liked but couldn't bring with her.
Thankfully, my son is too young to really realize what is taking place. He knows there is a storm, but doesn't comprehend that we might not have a house to return to.
I'll update when I can, but I expect we'll be in Austin for quite a few days. Instead of returning Saturday night or Sunday, we're hearing that we might not be able to return until Monday or Tuesday. :S
