Question of the Day
Book Trailers.
Have any of you seen them? This seems to be a new rage right now. Author's are paying design companies to do what is really a ultra-mini movie of their book. Some only last a few seconds, some as long as four minutes.
I've seen some really good ones, and I've seen some so-so ones. Did any of them make me want to buy the book? I don't know. The ones that were done welll, had actors in them and looked like a movie trailer that we see on TV.
So, I've been toying with the idea of having one done for one of my series. Of course if you ask the production companies, they'll tell you that people connect with the trailers and I'll sell more books. But, I thought before I commit and spend my hard earned dollars (when I desperately need new bookmarks and should spend my money there), I thought I'd go to y'all first.
What I'd like to know, is if you've seen them, have they pushed you to buy the book?
Do you like the trailers that are similar to a movie trailer, or will a book trailer that just has still pictures work just as well?
Do you like the concept/idea of the book trailers?

I've seen a few different trailers. Some I liked, some were, eh...
I have to say though, I found the trailers because I was checking out the sites of authors I like, and I would have bought the book regardless. I'm not sure that (a) I would have seen the trailer without already having an interest in the author, or (b) if it would have made me want to buy a book I hadn't already planned on buying anyway.
For me, the blurb on the back is usually what sells the book. That and/or word of mouth.
That's pretty much how I feel, Kelly.
I usually see the trailer because I'm at the site seeing what new books the author has, having already decided to buy their next book.
The trailer, IMO, didn't convince to buy it or not to buy it.
I actually have two book trailers that I put together on my website.

My design business is going to start doing custom trailers. I've teamed up with a very talented movie trailer editor that has done stuff for anywhere from Mission Impossible to The Notebook...so Donna, you might want to talk to me about it. :)
Oh, thanks, Jax!
I'll go take a look. :)
