Cover Question

After a busy weekend that included having the end of year T-ball team over to swim, I saw my hubby off this morning for a trip. I really hate when he leaves, because either I get sick or something usually happens to the kids. :S So, you can understand why I get a little nervous when he's gone.

The upside to his being away is that I get a LOT of writing done, especially in the evenings. I did get my revisions done on In the Arms of Love and they're off to my agent.

I also signed the contracts to the novella and both the Shield books, so I'm ticking things off my To-Do list. :) I really want to finish the fourth Druid book. I've only got about a 100 pages to go, and I have to tell you, the hero is really getting angry at being pushed to the side. He was understanding at first, especially when I told him that if I could clear out some of the other stuff, I'd be more focused on him and the heroine. Well, he's not so understanding now, so I fear he's going to demand I finish his story this week.

My editor will be glad of that as well since she's waiting on this story. She'll have to wait a bit longer since I will still have revisions once I'm done. I'll most likely get her the third Shield book before I get her the fourth Druid book.

Whew.

Is everyone thoroughly confused on books now? lol

I need to go finish writing the blurbs, one liners and get the art questionnaire done. Speaking of which, I'd really like to know something. Think back to all the romance books you've read. Now, I realize that some people are automatic buys. Johanna Lindsey is an auto buy for me, whatever her covers may be. But, lets think of an author you haven't read. What was a cover that really got your attention and got you to pick up the book? Was it the colors? The picture? What?

Please tell me, I'm dying to know. :)

I love covers that are a combo of orange, red and yellow. Or pink, white, red or purple. See: Deidre Knight's PARALLEL ATTRACTION. And, Marjorie M. Liu's THE RED HEART OF JADE. I also like books with a Scotsman on the cover! Remind me to tell you the differences between various Europeans in bed. *snicker*
I can relate to the nervousness you feel, D. When I lived in Hawaii, and sweetums would go out to sea for months at a time, I would worry. However, If something broke I'd get someone to fix it. If I needed help, I called the ombudsman who was my friend. I always managed to hold down the fort. I'll be glad to come stay with you if you need a bodyguard. *g*
You've been busy. Congrats! on all your accomplishments. And, yes, I'm confused. That's normal though. lol!

Oh boy. That fun filled Saturday has made me pay big time. I can barely lift my arm without having terrible pain. I have decided that we need to buy something that will provide some form of shade for your pool! lol I won't forget the sunscreen next time, that's for sure! Don't forget, that if you need anything while you're there alone with the kids, just give me a call. I'll be more than happy to go pick up your Dairy Queen treats for you! As for covers, I have nothing. I'm no help in that area. lol OH! And I totally can't wait for the fourth book to be finished!! So write a bunch this week for me! :)

I've seen DK's cover, Mel, so I know exactly what you're talking about. :)

lol. There's no way you're getting away without sending me an email about the "various Europeans in bed".

You lived in Hawaii! Oh, how fun!

Thanks, doll! I always manage to scare myself when my dh isn't here, so I just might need a bodyguard. :D

Oh, Robyn. You poor thing. I kept telling you to put sunblock on. But did you listen? Noooo. :)

The kids have already been asking when you were coming, so they're expecting you. :)

I like covers with scenes or flowers on them and those are the ones I tend to pick up even when I don't know the author. I may not buy them after I read the blurb but they do get my attention.

I never minded when my hubby went on short trips. I live near family so there was always someone to help out if their was a problem but mostly I dealt with things myself. I'm sure you will do just fine!

I'm glad you have been able to check things off on your list. I hate it when I have a lot to do!

I find any cover with a landscape picture on it grabs my attention, especially if there is an old house as part of it. I like the atmosphere that can crate. I don't like covers that show me the hero's face because half the time I find him unattractive and that just ruins it for me. I've actually not bought books for that factor alone because the cover sticks this unappealing picture of the hero in my head before I can ever get into the book to develop it on my own.

You really want a run down of Europeans in bed? HAHA!

Yep. I lived on Oahu for two years. HATED IT!

Thanks, Carol. :)

Oh, January, I so agree. I don't want to see the hero's face. I asked that mine be headless, and so far, they've just kinda made their faces not so noticable. I've been happy with that.

lmao. Kelly, I've actually put a book back because of that. I couldn't stand the face. :)
